The original courses were organized using a rudimentary learning management system that Baker created. On January 2, 1997, this online school was moved to the domain. The second course, Canadian Literature, became available in early 1996. This course was available to the public via the Internet. Using Notepad, Baker constructed the first course, grade 11 biology, in 1995. Virtual High School is the oldest online high school in Ontario. ![]() VHS holds Ontario Student Records for students who attend VHS full-time and plan to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diplomas at VHS. They are written by certified teachers and presented entirely online. The courses are housed in Brightspace by D2L, an integrated learning platform developed in Waterloo, Ontario. Students are given 18 months to complete each course and are able to work at their own pace. VHS is an asynchronous school allowing students to register and start on any day of the year. Its founder and principal is Stephen Baker. Approved TXVSN Online Course and Professional Development Reviews Information Students do not need to be physically present at school during instruction of TXVSN courses. TXVSN teachers are trained in best practices in delivering online instruction. TXVSN courses are taught by teachers who are Texas-certified in the content area and grade level of the course or meet the credentialing requirements of the associated institution of higher education. Instruction provided through the TXVSN OLS is 100 percent virtual. The TXVSN Online Schools (OLS) program offers free, full-time virtual instruction to eligible Texas public school students in grades 3-12 who enroll in one of the TEA-accredited public schools approved to participate in the program.
